View security limitations on Google Drive files

The Security Limitations view is supported on:

  • Google Docs
  • Google Slides
  • Google Sheets
  • Google Vids

File owners, shared drive managers, and administrators have the ability to place protections on their files to prevent collaborators from taking certain actions.

Users can now utilize the security limitations view within Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Vids to see all restricted actions in one place.

This helps the user to see both what actions are restricted and who’s responsible for those restrictions (either a file owner controlled setting, or an organizational policy).

File owner shared Drive manager limitations

File owners and shared Drive managers can set these limitations:

Limitation Cause
Download, copy, print, and email are disabled.
Sharing is limited to certain recipients. Shared Drive external access settings

Organization restrictions

Administrators can create organizational policies that set these limitations:

Download, copy, print, and email are disabled. DLP Information Rights Management (IRM)
Sharing is limited to certain recipients.
