Trim video & audio transcripts in Google Vids (Workspace Labs)
Important: This article refers to Google Workspace Labs, which is a trusted tester program for users to try new AI features. To check if you have access to Workspace Labs features, open Google Vids. To trim speech-based videos or audio in Vids, you can edit the text transcript. To create a polished media clip, you can remove highlighted silences and filler words.
Learn how to trim transcripts
To remove filler words and long pauses from video clips or audio tracks by editing the transcript:
- On your computer, open Google Vids.
- Select a video.
- Or, click Start a new video .
- Click on a video clip or audio track that contains speech in English and then Transcript .
- The transcript displays in a side panel on the right.
- If the transcript isn’t ready, a "Generating transcript" message shows.
- In the transcript, select a word or silence that you want to remove.
- Click Remove Delete .
- When you play back your media, that word or silence is removed.
Tips:
- Filler words, like "uh," show in red and are underlined.
- Silences display in parentheses, with ellipses and their duration.
- Example: (...3s)
- To restore deleted words or silences, you can select the removed term and then Restore .

- After the transcript trim is complete, a "How would you rate this transcript edit?" message shows.
- You can select Good transcript edit or Bad transcript edit .
- If you click Bad transcript edit , you can select the issue you found and enter additional feedback.
- Click Submit.

- In your menu bar, click Help and then Help Vids improve.
- Describe your issue or suggestions.
- To help identify the issue, select Capture screenshot.
- Click Send.

How Workspace Labs data in Vids is collected
When you use transcripts in Vids, Google uses and stores the following data:
- Generated content.
- Google Workspace content that you have access to that is referenced to generate content (both Google-selected input and user-provided input).
- Your feedback on transcripts.
