Edit text with your touchscreen

If your Chromebook has a touchscreen turned on, you can use your fingers to edit text.

Actions you can take

Move the cursor: Tap the cursor and drag it to where you want it on the text.
Open action menu: To open the action menu that gives you the option to "Select," "Select all," and "Paste," double tap the word to show the action menu.
To select one word: On an editable document, double tap the word you want to select.
Select multiple words: On an editable document, double tap the first word and then drag the cursor across the text until all desired words are selected.

Tips:

To focus on the text, move the cursor or drag your finger across it, and the magnifier opens.
To select a word, swipe your finger across it. To deselect a character, swipe in the opposite direction.
To open the action menu, you can also press and hold the word aside from double tapping.
In addition to double tap, you can also press and hold a word instead of double tapping. Both methods would work.
Due to Google Docs’ customized user experience, these tap editing interactions don’t work on Docs.
