significance/differentiation of programs; pol.interp, divided differences,
Newton form; piecewise linear interpolation; cubic Hermite interpolation and
cubic splines; numerical quadrature; numerical quadrature error; curves;
matrices; pivoting; condition; least-squares; root finding; ode's)

- Computing assignments (and in-class demos) will be in MATLAB,
available on the
UNIX workstations. There is no access (either directly or by telnet) to
the NT workstations (nor is there MATLAB on the NT machines).
- While there is a MATLAB hand-out (Kermit Sigmon's MATLAB
Primer, 3rd Edition) available at DoIT (look for CS 525 handout #2), I
intend to rely on MATLAB's extensive on-line help facilities.
- accessing matlab via telnet (as of 8sep96)
- accessing matlab via telnet from a Win95
or Win3.1 machine
- Course Syllabus (evolving), in
postscript or in
pdf (as of 06nov).
- Assignments:
and policies concerning them.
- All email sent to the class list is archived.
- If you prefer to receive such email at some location other than your
class account, you need to place a .forward file, containing in its
sole line the email address you prefer, into the public
subdirectory in your class account. To access your class account for the
first time, use the newuser command on any of the CS instructional
unix work stations.
- CSL will conduct Unix Orientation Sessions for new users during the
first two weeks of class; look for the announcements posted by the
elevator.
