Browsers in Instiki
[[!include contents]] :category: help Instiki uses [MathJax](http://www.mathjax.org/) to render mathematics on browsers that don't support MathML (either natively, or through a plugin). That's slow (and, with mixed MathML/SVG content, somewhat buggy) so it's preferable to have a browser that supports MathML and SVG natively. In practice, that mean one of the Mozilla family of browsers. [Firefox](https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/) and [Seamonkey](http://www.seamonkey-project.org/) work very well for rendering XHTML+MathML+SVG content. [Safari](http://www.apple.com/safari/) (10.1 and later) is also quite good. There's an ongoing project to bring [MathML support to Chromium](https://mathml.igalia.com/). Which means that, someday, [Google Chrome](https://www.google.com/chrome/) and [Microsoft Edge](https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/MSEdge/blob/7d69268e85e198cee1c2b452d888ac5b9e5995ca/README.md) will also natively support MathML. 12 Jan 2023 — MathML now supported by Chrome web browser. This week marked an incredible milestone in internet history. ## Fonts ##{: Fonts} The [STIX Two](http://stixfonts.org/) fonts are what you need to render MathML. Instiki 0.20.0 offers up those fonts as web-fonts, which means that you *don't* need to have them installed on your system. Of course, if you *do* have them installed, Instiki pages will render a wee bit faster as you won't need to download the fonts over the internet. So you probably want to [install the STIX Two fonts](http://stixfonts.org/install.html). ## Windows Internet Explorer## {: #Windows} The [MathPlayer plugin](http://www.dessci.com/en/products/mathplayer/) provides MathML support for IE < 11. Apparently, it no longer works in IE 11 or later.
