Why isn't the most obvious by default backed up? #542

Changing the post topic, major flaw.

Just downloaded the program, and to my surprise The "my games" folder in documents isn't automatically backed up. Why? Most games save their savefiles there, especially older ones. (borderlands 1, skyrim vr, terraria, blade and sorcery, etc.) Most notably, for me at least, is just cause 3. It doesn't support cloud saving on steam and saves to my games in documents.

alright completely rewriting this part of the post

This tool is very broken.

I've configured a shortcut to launch with

"C:\Users\Hunter\Documents\ludusavi-v0.29.1-win64\ludusavi.exe" wrap --name "Hollow Knight" --gui -- "C:\Program Files (x86)\Games\Hollow Knight\Hollow Knight.exe"

When i launch it, it tells me that there are no backups to restore and if i want to launch. I select yes. I close the game and it asks me if i want to backup. I click yes. It takes a while, and eventually fails. It failed with out of disk space.

The hollowknight save files, all together, are less than 2MB.
I had 8gb free.

How does 2MB inflate to 2GB?

A backup of every savefile it detects in the normal GUI is less than 1gb.

This tool is broken, and I'm giving up.

The command I gave a few lines above this? No longer works after the storage leak. (yes i freed up more storage)
It now gives Errro: The config file is invalid. EOF while parsing a value. Nothing changed.

Just use something more reliable, ludusavi is not the way to go.

image I really tried to like it too. Sucks, opensourced software is shitty as always.

Hi! Sorry you're having trouble here. I can try to help, but I'd appreciate it if we could keep it constructive.

The "my games" folder in documents isn't automatically backed up. Why? Most games save their savefiles there, especially older ones. (borderlands 1, skyrim vr, terraria, blade and sorcery, etc.) Most notably, for me at least, is just cause 3. It doesn't support cloud saving on steam and saves to my games in documents.

Ludusavi has a specific list of save locations for each game, which is largely based on PCGamingWiki. The goal is to back up just the relevant set of files for each game in a way where they can be tied to that game specifically. For Just Cause 3, the wiki article specifies %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Square Enix\Just Cause 3\Saves as the save location, which is also what I have on my system.

That said, sometimes different versions of a game (Steam/GOG/etc) put save in different places, and it may be that the wiki is missing some info. What's the exact folder path you see inside of My Games? And which store did you buy the game from?

How does 2MB inflate to 2GB?

No idea what's happening there. Could you try running a preview scan to see what it's finding? Just run this command and post the output: "C:\Users\Hunter\Documents\ludusavi-v0.29.1-win64\ludusavi.exe" backup --preview "Hollow Knight"

Edit: This command won't work until we fix your config file. Let's try to solve that first, then come back to this part.

It now gives Errro: The config file is invalid. EOF while parsing a value. Nothing changed.

Could you upload a copy of the config file? It's located at %APPDATA%\ludusavi\config.yaml by default.
