Hi Roberto,

I want to introduce myself. My name is Karthik. To develop my artificial intelligence and Python programming skills, I am using Raspberry Pi to build a personal Robocar project at my own pace. As part of my interest in ADAS applications, I am interested in MATLAB/Simulink integration. Let's connect and collaborate.

Thank you!

Best Regards,
Karthik

Hi Karthik,

Great to have you onboard!
This is a great project to work on to get familiar with AI and robotics, and having fun!
You can use the Deep Learning Toolbox and/or Computer Vision Toolbox to train your own detection network. We have several examples you can use as a starting point. Also, if you need to label your own image data you can use the image labeler app.

For integration with Raspberry Pi you will need the support package as mentioned in the project description.

Please do not hesitate to write here if you have any comments and/or questions.

Best,
Roberto

Hi Roberto,

I hope you are doing well! I want to get in touch about the status of this challenge. I buy a low-cost robot to familiarize myself with AI Vision and learn Python. I have provided a link below for your reference.

  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9oISekSE2Q
  2. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08V9B1K33/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I chose this product because it has multiple functions, and I am considering using it for this capstone project. Please let me know your thoughts about this?

I will stay in contact for further communication.

Thank you!

Best Regards,
Karthik

Hi Kartik,

Sorry for my late reply but I have just got back from vacation.

This robot car seems great! It comes with a good combination of sensors and supports Raspberry Pi. Interesting how many functionalities are pre-built and already available. I guess they may be useful to use as reference but, as you know, for the best educational experience you should implement your own :) ! I think this is a good platform for this project. Please, let us know your experience as you continue working on it. Also, I know you want to learn Python, but for the detection part you can use our tools as well, and perhaps do a comparison at the end, if you want.

Please continue to update us and let us know if you have any questions.

Best,
Roberto

Hi Roberto,

No worries!

Thanks for your time and I appreciate your understanding! Absolutely for the prototype design, I will come up with my own. Currently, I am working on the self-paced courses, including Deep Learning and Image Processing. I will walk through the examples and will get in touch with an update.

Thank you!

Best Regards,
Karthik

Hi @robertogl,

I am a junior student from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Currently, I'm working on this project with a team. In addition to the project requirements, we are trying to implement a Chinese speech recognition system and deploy it on the robot car. However, doing this on Simulink could be difficult, so we are wondering if the following workaround is acceptable for this project. We conduct face detection on the Android device using Simulink and send this data to the Raspberry Pi, which will further handle this information and control the car accordingly. But the raspi part does not involve Simulink. I know this is not what the webpage exactly asks us to do in Suggested step 2, but we assure you that the final result will be as responsive as the Simulink version.

We've already leveraged Simulink for face detection. It's just that the raspi part uses a different solution.

Thanks!

Hi @VoidXia,

Ok, no problem with that. As you probably know, we have a Simulink support package for Raspberry Pi and some examples (like this) for speech recognition. So, it might not be that difficult, after all :).

Just out of curiosity, what are you currently using on the Raspberry Pi?

Thank you!

I'm using a c++/python backend on Raspberry Pi to parse the UDP data from Simulink on android and control the car base on that input and the voice control commands. What we were trying to do is to integrate Chinese speech recognition, and I've failed to find examples for that. But I will definitely take a deep look into the example you've provided. Thanks!

It looks good to me. If you are still getting that compiler error, you may contact Mathworks Technical support for further troubleshooting. They might be able to help you. Also, if you have access to MATLAB R2022a, you might consider upgrading to that.

Hi
That problem is sorted. I have another problem now. I am trying to deploy the Simulink model on my android phone but it throws the following error:

The model runs perfectly but deployment stage has this error. Please help me out soon.

Just a suggestion: When you reply to someone's comment do not write a new comment but "write a reply" within that person's comment. That is how they will get notified and see your reply.
Cheers!
