Latest iOS App Broke Connectivity to RDIO server 6.6.3 #472

ChiefGeekOfficer started this conversation in General
Discussion options

Just noticed that there was an updated iOS app pushed (1.9.5) and it seems to have broken the ability to work with the current version of RDIO server (6.6.3). Is this a known issue and if so, is there a fix for it?

Very odd, I can not get it to connect no matter what I do.

I had an issue today where the IOS app would not connect to my stream server. I thought my server went down but I was able to connect via the Safari browser. I killed the app and restarted it and was then ok. I have also noted that for some time the app stops receiving if it is not open on current screen.

Yep, I did try that as well, also restarted the stream server and uninstalled/reinstalled the iOS app and nothing worked. Hi guys!

The latest version had a couples of its libraries updated and may be because of that. I'll check to reinforce the connection to the server and will commit a new beta for the IOS platform.

If you wish to participate, please DM me your email address to which you Apple account is linked to and I will add you to the list of beta testers.

Hopefully this will get resolved soon.

Thanks

Android version update seems like it's lagging quite a bit as well

I'm wondering if the issue is related to the way people are exposing their servers to the internet. I'm currently using Cloudflare zero trust tunnels. None of my users with the current native application have been reporting any issues. I have still been using the native app as I'm working on my own (Only Useable with my server) still which isn't ready just yet for production use.

Sorry, the current version is nice but I'd LOVE to have that!

I thought it could be related to CF as well but the issue exists even connecting directly to the IP internally.

what platform are you running your server on?

Ubuntu

I made major changes on how the app maintains its connection to the server and makes it more robust. Hopefully this will sort out some of your issues.

I've opened 50 beta tester slots on the IOS platform where you can register here. Build 1.9.6+149 should wait for you.

I just installed the beta you released and it resolved the issue for me.

I'm really happy to hear that, you made my day! Basically it was an issue of not retrying the connection when the server address can't be resolved, and some other quirks.

Thanks so much for turning this around so quickly!

I think there might be some lingering issues. It was working but now it can no longer connect after the streaming server was temporarily offline. Additionally, if I make a change to the server list on the app and force close the app, the changes revert back so it doesn't seem like it is storing them.

As an update to this, I was able to resolve this by adjusting my Cloudflare config. I had created a redirect rule that does a 301 redirect of my https://domain.com to https://rdio.domain.com when the user agent contains Dart. I did this just as a matter of convivence for users to be able to enter a shorter domain and it did work flawlessly with the older app but the new version seems to struggle with that. I just am pointing the app to https://rdio.domain.com now and that is working fine.

I'm still occasionally losing connection. It's usually when I switch from WiFi and cellular data. I still have to force close the app and it comes right back.

Wanted to note that the new beta has fixed connection issues for myself and some of my users completely - we're extremely pleased.
