In the image you can see my current lashup!

its run off a single 12v 6a PSU (the (1080p 11") LCD module is 12v @ 2A) it also powers a 5v 5a buck, for the PI5

dmesg shows no voltage or throttling warnings and vcgencmd get_throttled shows 0x00 (just before someone screams at me ! :D ) the thinner wires are going to an RTC battery (obscured by USB plugs in the photo)

And yes I know i could scour chromeOS off a cheap chrome book in favour of Linux but that's not the point and I'd rather have the PI ecosystem to boot....

I want to source a more flexible micro to full HDMI cable if anyone has any suggestions

Ideally I want something that can be used on my lap, I'm not worried about battery power (guess I could always use a USB C trigger board for 12v and a beefy external USB bank if I really did want that)

I'm thinking of mounting the SSD not on the pi as designed but side by side so they are flatter (as in the photo)

I'm undecided about mounting the PI and SSD nearer the LCD with the control board closer (due to the length of the eDP cable and the hdmi socket) but any ideas here ?

I'd like to integrate the keyboard and not adverse to disassembling it (if the back of it isn't intrinsic to its design) I'm not over keen on the mouse pad and will likely ditch it in favour of usb wireless mouse

I have some friction hinges and the LCD panel is very light, it would be nice to have it fold down so it could be easily transported.

I'd welcome any ideas people might have, its still very early days as I have yet to model most of the components before designing / virtually fitting things together

Nice setup! For a flexible micro to full HDMI, try the UGREEN or Cable Matters ultra flex series, they’re thin, durable, and work great for compact Pi builds like yours.

i found on aliexpress some cables with different choices for ends so was able to order an A2 (full size hdmi) to D2 (micro) the 2 meaning that the (thin flat) cable should be pointing upwards to minimise the space the plugs take up. (hopefully when this arrives it should be right!)

I think these cables are usually for FPV drone setups

for the LCD I'm going to 3d print some bottom bezels with heat inserts (which I will attach with epoxy glue), I can then screw in a set of top bezels to sandwich the actual LCD panel, I'll bolt and epoxy glue the friction hinges onto the acrylic base that holds everything.

... then once the cable lands I will be able to arrange and design the bottom holding the pi, buck ssd and lcd driver board

Still not sure what to do about being able to attach the keyboard in such a way it can be removed easily if need be (it might be the main access to the bottom section for maintenance)

again any suggestions most appreciated !
