Power management issues (Fedora 39 Workstation edition on RPi4 8GB)

Tue Mar 05, 2024 1:35 pm

Hi guys,
running Fedora 39 WE on a Rpi 4 8GB with an Argon One case (m.2 extension case to allow booting from the ssd).
I have deactivated any Power Saving Options:
Screen Blank: Never
Automatic Suspend: Off

Neofetch report:

Code: Select all

The problems are:
  • even when I power off properly using the Gnome command or via terminal, the red LED keeps lit on and the power button will not let me boot the RPi back on. I have to either keep it pressed for several seconds or unplug the power cable
  • This happens when I leave Fedora running with no keyboard or mouse input: the system basically goes to sleep (I guess), no video output, the red LED in this case goes off and I am not able to wake the system up again
I remember having to run a script for the Argon One case in order to use its power button properly, but that was back when I used Ubuntu Mate on it. Should I use a similar option? Or do you reckon the issue may be different on Fedora?

Thank you

normal, as long as power is connected, it's still getting power.

normal, same as above.

no harm in trying.

also keep in mind, fedora uses uboot, not a raspberry kernel, so you don't get any benefits except whats in a standard kernel.

why is my RPi cold when the power cable is connected but the RPi itself has not been booted yet, then? And instead it is very warm in the two instances I described above (after shutting down Fedora and LED light is still on and when I keep the power button pressed to "force" full shutdown after software shutdown)?
no harm in trying.
currently trying to compile that program for Fedora WE...
