Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
Very interesting and it would fit my project perfectly.
I'm building a magnetometer and I'm going to use the Pi to do the processing but I needed a simple display for the system to display measurements and settings.
I just registered to be able to PM you about it but as a new user I'm not allowed to send PM...
Could you contact me on my email instead? [email protected]

Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
OK - works fine as a replacement for the original style ones ;-p
plugged into my old 256Mb Rpi issue one, no problems all working [well not tested the buttons yet but display works]
a small though about the next version - if to be used on a model A then you'll need a support where the NIC socket is if you get it right then you should be able to use one of the NIC adapter holes ;)

Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
Good point RaTTuS. I'll consider that for Rev 3. Rev 2 has already been sent to the fab.
Remember for the switches, you HAVE to enable the pull down resistors for full functionality. I didn't want to use external resistors, so that it wouldn't interfer with the 'expansion' GPIO port lines.
Cheers,
Texy

Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
You could always cut a notch out where the composite connector is so the board will sit flatter.
Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
Very true - I,d have to do the same for the composite video connector too.

Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
it rests nicely on the NIC,
the Composite is Ok .. just a little high
but it does mean you have a back to press against
I quite like the white LED as opposed to the blue ...

Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
Recieved my board prompty, and managed to get it working quickly and without problems using the sample code giving in the link (managed to get the obligatory 'Hello World' to display). Board sits nice and neatly above the Pi, its an excellent board, that does what it says on the tin.
My project is building a QR reader that can update a database and accept an input from a numeric keyboard. A full display is more than I need so I looked to see how easy it is to build a small display, but got lost very quickly. Then discovered this post and is pefect for my project.
Good work Texy, many thanks

Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
Hi texy, I'm thinking of starting a project that will have my pi in a wooden box, with a screen attached to the inside of the lid, so I have to open the box to see it. Your board seems like it could be very helpful. Is there anyway to get it so that the lcd is separate from the board with the buttons, but connected to it by wires? That way I could have the board with the buttons attached to the pi, and the lcd separately mounted on the inside of the lid.
Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
Hi,
well I do sell a display attached to the Pi with a ribbon cable -
http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... =32&t=9814
However this doesn't have any buttons. You could use the display board, and wire you own buttons somehow. How big will the box be - are the buttons i use on the shield the right kind of size?

Hmm I did see that one. I couldn't tell if that one was easily mountable. Would I be able to get at the mounting holes?
Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
It depends on how thick your box lid is...........and your DIY skills :D

Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
That cable is coming straight out of the back of that LCD board, isn't it? :x
Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
Yes but I also have a right angled connector I could fit so that it comes out either up or down.

Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
Yes of course. There are a couple of different designs of display, so I,ll need to check that your display pin-outs matches my pcb.semtex wrote:Hello Texy

Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
Hi Texy
Mine is different. The pinout is:
1 - GND
2 - VCC
3 - CLK
4 - DIN
5 - D/C
6 - CS
7 - RST
8 - LED
Do you have an equivalent PCB for this layout?
Thanks
Ian

Re: Nokia Pi LCD + Switch Shield board
This may come in useful if you have a Nokia 3310 LCD from Texy (got mine, it's awesome). I’ve just ported large font creation to Python because I could only find it defined in C:
http://www.rasptut.co.uk/files/raspberr ... 10-lcd.php
has all the details and a link back to the original source.
Each large character is displayed over 3 rows (6 pixels per row). I’ve included a couple of functions to render the characters as well to take all the pain away. So with that all installed just call largetext(‘Hello World’) and you’ll be.. well.. saying hello to the world.
Hope that's useful to someone
