Pi500+ Power Button Problem
Hi everyone
I am having issues with the power button on my new Pi500+. Quite often when pressing the button to turn the unit on the unit will not turn on and the power buttons LED remains red. It doesn’t seem to matter how long I hold the button down, the unit will not turn on, requiring anywhere between five to ten attempts before the unit will turn on. In some cases I have to remove power from the unit and reapply it to get the unit to turn on.
I don’t think there is a problem with the switch itself, as I can use it to reliably shutdown the pi when it is running (pressing the button always brings up the shutdown menu when the pi is running).
I am using the official Raspberry Pi 45W power supply with the unit.
I anyone else having this problem, or have a resolution, or donI have a faulty unit?

Re: Pi500+ Power Button Problem
Yes I have exactly the same problem and haven't found the cause or a fix yet.
It worked fine until I did an update and then stopped working.
Once the 500+ is shutdown, the only way I can switch it back on again is by taking the USB C power connector out and then plugging it back in again, a real nuisance!
Anyone else?

Thanks for the response, it’s really appreciated.
The only difference between yours and mine is mine was had the issue even before any updates were done to the pi.

Re: Pi500+ Power Button Problem
I've posted a message on the Pimoroni support page as well as that's where I purchased the 500+ from.
Hopefully they may be able to help

Re: Pi500+ Power Button Problem
The problem as described is not something I've seen before. Have the units been opened up?
I would suggest contacting your reseller for RMA. This will help get the units back to us for investigation.

Re: Pi500+ Power Button Problem
The problem has been resolved for me today with the EEPROM update that was released in the last few days?
I applied the update using apt and it is working perfectly again now.
Looks like the previous EEPROM update broke it.

Yes, I have done that, it’s on it’s way back to the reseller as we speak. Hopefully they will be resolve the problem for me.
No, mine hasn’t been opened up.
That’s interesting, thanks for the info 🙂thevillageham wrote: ↑Thu Oct 23, 2025 4:13 pmThe problem has been resolved for me today with the EEPROM update that was released in the last few days?
