Photo transfer wirelessly via hotspot between phone? [solved]

Tue Oct 21, 2025 5:16 pm

Hello,
I would like to move my phone photos to Pi 5 desktop for backup reasons.
I figured out how with a USB cable, however I'm searching for a wireless solution.
My setup is mostly wireless which saves a fortune in no more broken cables.

I find wireless hotspot is best, as the same network allows for GUI transfers via networking and also CLI local desktop and remote phone ip addresses.

Perhaps some rsync command or some type of GUI upload to desktop perhaps?

iOS 18.5.
Pi5 desktop OS.

I'm not sure it's what you are after but on reading your post I copied a photo from the Photos app to an SMB share on a Pi via the Files app over WiFi. Then had a look at it on the (headless) Pi via VNC from the iPad. There is plenty of info on the Pi side of that on the forums. For bulk copies I would be inclined to use a cable but I'll be interested in what solution you come up with.
