Just got a new pi 500+ and the keyboard is not working correctly.
When i press the right shift button ZXCVB appears where I am typing.
When I press the enter key the caps light comes on and ASDFG appears where I am typing.

Re: pi 500+ keyboard not working
Is this a different Pi than the one that you had exactly the same issue with two weeks ago? viewtopic.php?p=2341529#p2341529
It sounds like a hardware fault with the keyboard, rather than a software configuration issue. The fact that you apparently fixed it by reinstalling may just indicate that the fault is intermittent.

Re: pi 500+ keyboard not working
Nope, same pi.
That worked once for about half an hour. The keyboard has not worked correctly since.

Re: pi 500+ keyboard not working
I wouldn't waste anymore time. As you have been advised return for a refund/replacement.

The Pi Hut people told me to come to this forum and make the post above. Once a pi engineer troubleshot with me, then they would consider replacing the pi 500+.
Are any of you pi engineer's ??

:?: :?:
Sounds weird! If the product is not working you can return it under warranty. it's not the customer that need to figure out what's wrong.
O.k. UK might hae different laws in regards or warranty/returns...
Re: pi 500+ keyboard not working
No it hasn't, if something is faulty within 14 days you can return it for replacement or a refund. After 14 days you can return it for a repair, if the repair doesn't work, you can request a replacement or refund. After six months, it is just a repair unless you can prove the fault was there from new. None of this has anything to with the warranty provided with the product, it is the contract between the purchaser and supplier.aBUGSworstnightmare wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 7:19 am:?: :?:

I would go back to Pi Hut and request your faulty 500+ is replaced.

Re: pi 500+ keyboard not working
Sounds like an intermittent fault to me. i.e. was unlucky enough to work during final test at the factory but now showing bad behaviour. It should be a warranty return. Hopefully it eventually comes back to the Raspberry Pi office so we can investigate.
Re: pi 500+ keyboard not working
I was reading about the keyboard being controlled by a rp2040 and found an article that talked about upgrading the firmware in the keyboard. I checked and I had version 1.0.1 and went through the process to upgrade it to 1.2.0. So going to try this out for a day or two and see what happens.
Re: pi 500+ keyboard not working
It cannot be correct that the Pi Hut insists "a pi engineer troubleshot with me" as Pi Hut has no control over engineers' responding ???
Re: pi 500+ keyboard not working
Hello,
Thank you for your email.
I can confirm Pi have asked if you can post this on their forum here - https://forums.raspberrypi.com/
Int he troubleshoot section. Once of their engineers will take a look at this. Please put on there your complete set up, OS ect.
If they deem this as faulty please come back to me so I can help you with this.
Many Thanks,
The Pi Hut Team
Re: pi 500+ keyboard not working
The firmware upgrade worked for a day and now the keyboard is back to the same behaviour.
Re: pi 500+ keyboard not working
Twice now you have been advised by RP Engineers to return to retailer. Just send it back.

I am waiting for a reply from Pi Hut at this point.
RMA across international lines is not going to be fun.

The 500+ I bought from PiHut.us is exhibiting almost identical behavior to what duane909 described. Hitting 'Enter' activates the entire row including caps lock. Testing the unit online on Vial verified this.
For those who would ask, yes it has been brought completely up to date including the keyboard firmware.
I opened it up to check the ribbon cable seating and found that the circuit board for the keyboard was very ugly. It does not seem to have been cleaned properly; some of the solder joints look suspect and there are even fingerprints in the mess.
The rest of the pi works quite well and I'm otherwise happy with it.
Pictures attached although they had to be shrunk to fit the forum requirements.

Re: pi 500+ keyboard not working
Would cleaning it in the dishwasher be likely to fix it or just void the warranty?
Re: pi 500+ keyboard not working
That circuit board looks awful! Is that a manufacturing defect?

I used to have a silicon keyboard that specifically advertised being dishwasher safe. It was very mashy on the buttons, good if you were a two finger typist.
Don't think RPi Foundation has included that as a feature as yet.
A shout-out to Pishop.us for taking the defective unit back and verifying my experience. 10/10 for communication with those folks.
Now to get Rust on the new one and get on with this project.
