geerlingguy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 02, 2025 7:27 pmI've been testing for a couple days with nightlies, and switched over to the official image today. Nice thing is it has a lot of newer packages, which means some of my hacky tweaks don't need to be made anymore.
There are a few little speedbumps, but now that the official image is here, other people can adjust their own scripts to handle Trixie well out of the box too! I like the new default background, it is a little simpler in style, and doesn't *seem* to confuse my camera's exposure quite as much (niche problem, but hey!).
I know you! You're a big star in the YouTube world ;). Maybe a little off-topic, but you only live once, so wanted to have it said.

Many thanks...Olydnad_SWE wrote: ↑Thu Oct 02, 2025 7:20 pmdwam wrote: ↑Thu Oct 02, 2025 6:52 pmIt's been discussed before in the beta section but maybe this thread will get more attention.
It seems there is something wrong with the "remove safely" feature from PCmanFM and the taskbar. Removable media connected with USB fail to eject properly in Trixie.
I have posted a detailed description of the issue here:
viewtopic.php?p=2340654#p2340635
as well as the commands I use to overcome this problem and prevent my disks from being corrupted
It'd be great if more people could confirm this issue
I tried it, and for me it worked. I've only tested a USB stick so can't answer if it always works.
Yes I wrote that USB sticks don't seem to be affected by this issue... It occurs with sata or nvme disks when plugged with USB

Re: TRIXIE is released! Please comment below!
I'm currently installing Trixie on a spare SSD, but saw a small problem along the way that might be related to Trixie or might not.
When I opened Raspberry Pi Imager on my existing 64 Bit Bookworm install, it told me that there was a newer version and sent me to the website.
But I am fully up to date with apt update && apt full-upgrade. So how is there a newer version I've missed?
Is it because the version of raspberry pi imager being checked against is a newer Trixie version that I don't have yet because I'm still on Bookworm?
My version of Raspberry Pi Imager is 1.9.4
Anyway, that aside, I've already written the image and about to boot from it to have a look at it.
thanks all!

I have noticed that that labwc in Debian Trixie is 0.8.3
https://packages.debian.org/search?keyw ... ection=all
But in the RaspiOS repo, we get both 083 and 084
https://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/ ... n/l/labwc/
I see that 084 has many fixes :)
https://github.com/labwc/labwc/releases/tag/0.8.4
Any chance that the official Debian will upgrade to 084?

There is a newer version for windows : 1.9.6
But it's not available for RPIs, only 1.9.4
So this alert shouldn't appear but it does...
FYI, there is a beta version for Imager which has been released a few days ago : version 2.0.0

Thank you for the great work!
Just one thing to point out: pigpio isn't included.
While its development has been dormant for a long time, I believe it's an important part of the Raspberry Pi ecosystem.

My Daily Driver experiences so far using an SD card in a 8 GB Pi5 with an all-RPi NVME drive setup also installed...
1.) Great to see that I can now edit LibreOffice files on my OpenMediaVault NAS. Still can't Save As or create new LibreOffice files on the NAS, but this is in the right direction after a very long wait. (Mounting the NAS in a local using fstab is a nice workaround. Thanks to member thagrol for that!)
2.) Still no Natural Scroll option for the mouse. Must locate the proper rc.xml file from several on the drive, copy it to ~/.config/ and edit it to add natural scroll, ie...
<libinput>
<device category="default">
<naturalScroll>yes</naturalScroll>
</device>
</libinput>
Simon Long indicates that the new Control Centre offers more functionality so hopefully this "fix" can be done now. It's a lost cause trying to teach a 40-year long Mac user "un-natural" scrolling!
3.) Booting to the SD card using the space bar to bring up the boot menu and selecting "1" was hit or miss. After using raspi-config to select the SD card as the boot device, things worked fine.
Very pleasant clean and clear user experience for these tired old eyes. Congrats!

No apps force me, but I do have a shoebox full of 32-bit only Pi Model B, Zero, ZeroW etc. As for pip packages, although I am using more Python (and indeed, MicroPython on the Pico/Pico2) I do a lot of coding in C or C++.robertojguerra wrote: ↑Thu Oct 02, 2025 5:52 pmIt amazed me that there's still support for 32 bits... but I still don't know who needs it (besides Raspberry 2 an elder owners).SteveSpencer wrote: ↑Thu Oct 02, 2025 5:24 pmDid a 32-bit clean install of desktop on a 3B+ with original Pi Touchscreen. Looks good, and is reasonably responsive.
I notice there is no rpi-imager available. Is this 'in the works'? I tried apt install rpi-imager and there are packages that can't be resolved.
(Did the original imaging on my trusty Pi4 desktop bookworm installation, since I am unable to get any version of rpi-imager for Windows working on my Win10 Thinkpad W520, which I keep meaning to dig into and work out why, but I've been a bit busy with other things).
Also did an apt update/apt upgrade, and I like the Trixie changes to apt, especially that apt list no longer tells me the CLI is unstable..
This is not a rhetorical question: what apps are forcing you to use 32 bits?
Beware of pip packages that stopped distributing 32 bits and compel you to compile them (like numpy).
How does the new labwc theme look in a 480x320 pixel LCD?
The theme looks better. At my age, less is more...

Yesterday I installed the new Lite version. I installed the WM Sway and it doesn't work.
I'll try to install it from the sources to see if I can get it to work

PHP 8.4 does not work with 32-bit, tested with php-fpm nginx and php8.4 apache, none worked, PHP would not start on Raspberry pi 1.

I'm trying to enable port forwarding in PIOS Trixie to get Wireguard to work properly. But I noticed that the sysctl.conf file is missing. Why?
I usually ran the following command:
and it enabled "net.ipv4.ip_forward=1".
Can I create it manually, or have things changed?
Why am I getting the error: Can't open /etc/sysctl.conf: File or directory does not exist?
I usually ran the following command:
Code: Select all
sudo perl -pi -e 's/#{1,}?net.ipv4.ip_forward ?= ?(0|1)/net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1/g' /etc/sysctl.confand it enabled "net.ipv4.ip_forward=1".

Re: TRIXIE is released! Please comment below!
This came up in testing. It looks like the version of PHP in the Raspbian repository has been built with the wrong CPU type (ARMv7 instead of ARMv6). I ended up building the PHP packages from source. (That will take over 24 hours on a Pi 1B or Zero, or a bit over an hour when I put the same 32-bit SD card in a PI 5).
I don't know how to contact the Raspbian people to request they rebuild PHP for armhf with ARMv6.

Re: TRIXIE is released! Please comment below!
solved: trixie no longer reads the directives in /etc/sysctl.conf
but in /etc/sysctl.d/xx.conf
where we either insert it into the existing 98-rpi.conf file
or create in the same folder sysctl.conf
with the directive inside

in order to prevent resizing on first use,
I edited cmdline.txt and removed the strikethrough text
bookworm (works):

trixie (doesn't work):

how can I prevent auto resizing in trixie?

Headless Pi 5 and RealVNC - works fine.
Headless Pi Zero 2W and RealVNC - session closes almost immediately in terminal - as soon as you type a character. I tried both 64bit and 32bit Trixie
Disconnect happens on two different Pi Zero 2W's, different SD cards.
**EDIT*** Reflashed the Zero's back to Bookworm using Imager and had the same VNC problem; typing any character anywhere (not just Terminal) closes the session. Very odd. Found an older Bookworm build image I'd archived and that still works so I'm really confused, but whatever the problem it's not Trixie.

Open an issue on https://github.com/RPi-Distro/raspberrypi-sys-mods so this issue doesn't get lost. I would've expected removing resize to be enough, but there may be some other place that does a resize without being asked, like the cloud-init package or something.jpgview wrote: ↑Fri Oct 03, 2025 8:39 amin order to prevent resizing on first use,

Is there anything different happening under trixie regarding plymouth themes and the initramfs?
I have some pi zero 2s running a kiosk-like app, and I want my own plymouth theme with custom graphic to replace the rpi pix theme. This all worked fine under bookworm. There, I just deployed my theme in parallel to the existing themes, and switched plymouth configs to point to mine instead of to pix, then ran "update-initramfs -u", and I got my theme both on shutdown and startup. Under trixie, I'm being a little less roll-your-own and instead use "plymouth-set-default-theme -R" to switch to my theme AND rebuild the initramfs. But, now I get neither the pix theme nor mine - instead I get some generic screen with three dots off-center.

Pi4 8GB. Trixie from downloaded image. X11. Wired mouse, kbd and ethernet. 128GB brand new Samsung SD card.
Won't mount my USB 1TB Samsung HDD. My Pi5/4 Bookworm systems have no problem with it.
I like the toolbar on the bottom (A-La Windows!) but it keeps reverting to the top on reboot.
Pops up "connected to wired ethernet ip ..." in the top right of the screen seemingly at random. Quite rare.
Does anyone know if it is possible to install Zulucrypt. (I have it installed on Bookworm) but it can't be found in the repositories.

for some reason Connect was not automatically doing resolution adjustment until I have changed resolution on NOOP1 screen once - thank you very much for pointing me to the right direction!
