Víctor M. Gómez Blanco

Assistant Professor at University of Alcalá

Víctor M. Gómez-Blanco is an Assistant Professor at the University of Alcalá. He completed his PhD in Economic History at Carlos III University of Madrid in 2021, during which he undertook visiting research stays at leading institutions such as the European University Institute and the University of São Paulo. His dissertation was awarded the María Teresa Pérez Picazo Prize for the best doctoral thesis in economic history by the Spanish Economic History Association for the 2020–2024 period. Following his PhD, he held postdoctoral and lecturer positions at the EFFORT ERC project (Carlos III–Juan March Institute and WZB Berlin Social Science Center), Tilburg University, the University of Valencia, and CUNEF University. Víctor specializes in early modern public finance, inequality, and long-run economic development. His research has been published in top field journals including Explorations in Economic History and The Economic History Review, and has also received attention from major media outlets such as El País, eldiario.es, and El Economista. In addition to his academic publications, he has participated in five competitively funded research projects and has served as an academic consultant for Grupo Balear de Inversiones Financieras and IESE. His collaboration with the latter culminated in a co-authored book published by El Viso Press.
