Simiao Chen

Associate Professor, Head of Research Unit, Heidelberg Institute of Global Health at Heidelberg University

Simiao Chen is a tenured Associate Professor and Head of Research Unit for Population Medicine and Public Health at the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health, Heidelberg University, and a Visiting Professor at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College in China. She received a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Tsinghua University, a Master's degree in Management Science from Columbia University, and a doctorate in Global Health and Population from Harvard University. Her primary areas of research include population medicine and global health evidence-based decision-making; global health metrics and methodology; health economics and systems; behavioural intervention; health data science; and Al. She has over 140 publications in world-renowned journals such as The Lancet, JAMA, and BMJ, and her work received the Significant Progress of Medical Sciences in China award in 2020. Simiao Chen is an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow and a recipient of China's National High-Level Overseas Talent Recruitment Program. She is a Commissioner of the Lancet Commission on Investing in Health, the Lancet Commission on Population Medicine and Public Health, and the Lancet Respiratory Medicine Commission on COPD in China. She is also on the faculty of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, a Commissioner of the Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Health and Multimorbidity in China, and an Associate Editor of the Journal of the Economics of Ageing.
