Jan C. van Ours

Jan van Ours (1954) is Emeritus Professor at Erasmus School of Economics, Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is also Adjunct Professor at the Center for Health Economics, Monash Business School, CEPR Fellow and IZA Fellow. Jan van Ours studied mining engineering at the Technical University in Delft and economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he also got his Ph.D. He has published in journals like Journal of Political Economy, American Economic Review, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Labor Economics, Economic Journal, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Economics History, and European Economic Review. In 1996 he was awarded with the Hicks-Tinbergen medal of the European Economic Association (joint with Geert Ridder). His current research is on labor economics and sports economics. unemployment dynamics, effects of policy interventions in the labour market, unemployment benefits, immigrants and the labour market, illicit drugs. He teaches Labor Economics and Sports Economics. He recently published the third edition of the text book The Economics of Imperfect Labor Markets (at Princeton University Press, joint with Tito Boeri). He was the 2009 President of the European Society for Population Economics, President of the European Association of Labour Economists from 2011 to 2014.
