Compiled: 24 May 2018. Amended: 23 May 2024.
Introduction
This Privacy Policy notice tells you what we do with any personal information supplied to us by users. The notice is addressed to users of the Web site, and people who contact CAIN.
Who We Are
CAIN (cain.ulster.ac.uk) is an Archive / Web site based within Ulster University (www.ulster.ac.uk).
Personal Data We Use
Most people contact CAIN by completing an on-line form or sending a direct email. Some people contact CAIN staff by phone. The on-line form asks for some personal information (title, name, telephone number, etc.) to allow the CAIN Director to respond to the enquiry, although the only necessary information required is an email address and message. This information is known as personal data.
When a user views the CAIN Web site, a 'log file' on the server collects information on the user's IP address and the Web pages they have visited. Names, or other personal information, are not requested if someone is only viewing the Web pages, and so no such personal information is recorded by the log file.
How We Use Your Personal Data
We use your personal data in the following way:
Who We Share Your Data With
We will not share your personal data information with any other organisation.
How Long Information Will Be Kept
Emails from users and on-line form responses are stored (off-line) in an archive file (for reference only). Log files are also stored (off-line) on a PC hard drive and on CD-Roms. This information is a record of one aspect of the work of CAIN and will be retained while the CAIN project is active.
New Search Facility
On 23 May 2024
a new search facility was made available on CAIN which uses Google to search only the CAIN site. Users enter search terms and Google returns results in the form of links to CAIN HTML pages or documents (such as PDFs). CAIN does not collect any information about the search terms that users enter into the search box. As is the case when using the general Google search page, Google can access your search history, especially if you are signed in to your Google account.
