New maintainer wanted!

This issue is pretty important to me - this is why I placed it on top of this page. I'm the original maintainer of Yanoff but I don't have enough time to do further work on it. I know there are still some smaller issues with the code and I know this is annoying to at least a few people. To be honest with you: I haven't used Yanoff for the last couple of months. I don't even read UseNet anymore.

So as I don't have enough time to do it myself and Yanoff's users are important to me, I'm looking for some new people who want to do further developing on Yanoff. The code is written in C and I tried my best to write legible code with meaningful identifiers and an OOP style modularization concept. If you want to take a look at it, you can download the sources on the download page. I would provide everyone with initial help who wants to do the job. I wouldn't mind a small team to do the work although it isn't neccessary.

If you are interested, please drop me a few lines.

What is Yanoff?

Yanoff is a free UseNet newsreader. It is released under the terms of the GNU public license that comes along with this documentation. That means that you receive the source code of the application with the application itself.

Ok, but why this name?

Well, I thought about several names but almost all combinations of "Palm", "Pilot", "News", "Pad", "Go" were used by other software. Furthermore I donエt like names that are more a description of what a program does than a real name. And I like acronyms. I started with "Yet another newsreader" but that would result in "YAN" - a little bit short. Then I remembered the old list of internet services assembled by a guy called "Scott Yanoff". I thought is would be quite a good hommage to Yanoff and the good old times when AOL was not (yet) the subject of UDP debates in UseNet.

The official Yanoff mailing list

This is the official Yanoff mailing list - if there can be something like that in a GNU world. It is maintained by Daniel Smith whom Iエd like to thank for his effort.
