POLL: Should Arizona overhaul teacher training rules to ensure federal funding?
State schools chief Tom Horne has called for the immediate removal of any references to "diversity, equity and inclusion'' from any program that receives federal funds as ordered by President Trump. Horne contends that Arizona's professional teaching standards could run afoul of that order. He believes DEI today means "rewarding people for what race they belong to rather than what they've accomplished individually.'' Supporters, however, believe that DEI counteracts historical discrimination and creates fair opportunities for people who have previously been marginalized, like minorities. What do you think? Should Arizona scrub all traces of DEI from its teacher training standards to keep federal funding?
