The World Bank in Botswana

The World Bank partners with the government, private sector and other stakeholders to promote sustainable, inclusive growth, and job creation in Botswana.

Botswana At-A-Glance

The country is at the center of Southern Africa, positioned between South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. One of the world’s poorest countries at independence in 1966, it rapidly became one of the fastest-growing economies. Significant mineral (diamond) wealth, robust institutions, prudent economic management, and a relatively small population of about 2.5 million (2022), have made it an upper-middle-income country with an aspiration of becoming a high-income country.
