UNEP's Global Centre of Excellence on environmentally-sound waste management.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC) was established in Osaka in 1992. IETC promotes and supports the introduction of environmentally sound technologies (ESTs) in developing countries and other countries around the world. Through outreach activities, IETC promotes collaboration across national and local governments, the private sector, and civil society, and aims for a more sustainable future through the actions of each individual.

The mandate of IETC, as agreed in Decision 16/34 of UNEP Governing Council, is the transfer of environmentally sound technologies (EST) to developing countries and countries with economies in transition.
