Latin name: Endrosis sarcitrella
Size: Wingspan approximately 25mms
Distribution: Found throughout the UK.
Months seen: Any time of the year, but mainly from April to September
Food: Larvae feed on fabric, dried vegetation and stored foods.
Habitat: Inside houses.
Special features: The white-shouldered moth is commonly found in houses. It's usually the adult moths which are seen
in the early spring months when they emerge from their larval casings.
The caterpillars often go unnoticed, although the holes they leave behind in stored
clothing and fabrics are hard to miss.
The adult moths have no tongues, and do not feed at all. They only live for
about a month, and rely on food reserves built up during the caterpillar stage.
Incredibly their only food for the whole of their lives is dry fabrics!
