Latin name: Rutilus rutilus
Size: Can grow to 40cms and weigh up to 1kg
Distribution: Found throughout England and in many parts of Scotland and
Wales.
Months seen: All year
Food: Aquatic insects and vegetation.
Habitat: Most lakes, rivers and reservoirs in lowland areas.
Special features: Quite variable in colour. The scales can be darker than
the photo above, but usually have a silver-green sheen to them and the fins have
a reddish tinge.
