This is a followup message to one we posted a year or so ago. We are doing a state-of-the-art research project at the University of Melbourne which requires the use of squid. We are looking at the large nerve axon of the squid which is a very useful model of nerve firing.

We would be very willing to pay for any squid that are caught for us. The only issue is that we need the squid alive - or at least very fresh - to do the dissection. We have tried and tested a simple portable "aquarium" for the safe transport of the freshly squid.

We are looking for anyone that would be willing to help us in this project.

If anyone is interested, please let me know. Similarly, for more details of the research project, please get in touch.

I guess the only ones who can help you are those from Melbourne aye since you need squid that fresh. I'd love to help, but I'm based on Tassie.

I would be most interested in this project, but the timing is bad for me - until late last year i was based in Melbourne, fished for squid on a weekly basis, and travelled to Melbourne Uni every day for work (I am also a scientist). Now I am based in Canberra and only make it to Melbourne every few months <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

I hope you manage to find a source of axons!

I'll be squidding the next few weeks.

If there's a number I can contact you on during weekends or evenings, I can contact you when I have one in the live bait bucket.

Or if a freshly caught and vacuume sealed (withing 2 hours) squid is fine...

I'll be fishing Flinders, Queenscliff and Mornington on and off.

Dave.
