EventBlogging.com

[via Tracking GnomeDex ]:

In the age of ever more blogged conferences, it has become somewhat of a pain to find all the coverage for a particular event. Fortunately, Kris Krug's EventBlogging.com is a solution to this problem. For Gnomedex, EventBlogging provided a SuperFeed for the event, incorporating content from many of the usual suspects, including Flickr, del.icio.us, Feedster, Technorati, and PubSub. I love this one stop shopping idea, and I hope it catches on.

Incidentally, the source that appeared to do the best job of collecting Gnomedex information that was relevant to me was Feedster. Make of that what you will.

This seems less useful than simply tagging/categorizing entries and looking for everything with "gnomedex" and then aggregating based on that. Technorati seems to handle this nicely. I'll also note that you can grab the blogroll for use with any aggregator. Finally, there's already planet gnomedex. I can't figure out what EventBlogging adds. I'd be really interested in an aggregation service that allows more ad-hoc creation of events (e.g. tie into Upcoming.org)

It might be less useful than tagging everything, but that assumes that everyone tags everything, which many people, myself included, don't. The blogroll is nice, but I don't want to subscribe to all the posts, just those related to the event -- same thing with planet gnomedex. For me, it's a one click subscribe and unsubscribe, and Kirs has done all the work.

If EventBlogging builds these combined feeds for lots of conferences, that will be sufficient value for me.

For what it's worth, Kris' event blogging uses the Drupal platform's News Aggregator.

If I'm not mistaken, he looks for the dominate tags (or other matching criteria) for the events on the various services, like pubsub, flickr, etc.

Then, he subscribes to RSS feeds for all the new content being posted with the dominant tags, like ("gnomedex"). The Drupal news aggregator then becomes the aggregator for all the newly tagged content. The secret is that the aggragator has a single feed itself.

So, the superfeed for the event is really a feed coming from an aggregator of feeds, based on RSS subscriptions to tags and matching services.

Phew. Hopefully that makes sense. :)
