Arthur Struble was chief of staff for the naval forces involved in the Normandy landings. Transferred to the Pacific two months later, he commanded
an amphibian group
during the Philippines
campaign of 1944-1945. His group provided transport for the forces that
cleared the Dinagat Islands at the entrance to Leyte Gulf and carried out the flanking landings at Ormoc Bay in December 1944. He later commanded the Mindoro invasion force, where his cabin was hit by a kamikaze that killed his chief of staff and forced him to transfer his flag.
Struble directed the landing operations at Inchon and Wonsan during the Korean War.
