Modifications
Late 1944: I-47 and I-48 modified to carry four Kaiten by removing their deck guns. Surviving units likely received Type 13 air search radar and Type 22 surface search radar.
1945: I-47 further modified to carry an additional two Kaiten.

The C2s were virtually identical to the C1s. However, they were not equipped to carry a midget submarine. Another seven units were planned but not laid down.

Some authors list the C1s as the Cs and the C2s as the C1s.
