North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance
OUR MISSION
NAPSA unites the primate sanctuary community, builds capacity to provide sanctuary for captive nonhuman primates, and advocates to eliminate primate exploitation.
Saving the Chimpanzees In Need
WE DID IT!
In 2022, we completed our 3 year, 4ドルM emergency fundraiser to rescue 40 chimpanzees from a closed animal refuge. The work doesn't end there...
Chimpanzees In Need has shifted to focus on chimpanzee capacity planning, to ensure that chimpanzees in captivity in the US can be successfully rehomed at accredited, reputable sanctuaries.
Retire Your Primate
Are you seeking sanctuary placement for a primate?
NAPSA member sanctuariesare located throughout North America and provide lifetime care for monkeys and apes retired from entertainment, laboratory research, and private ownership.
Advocacy
Since its inception, NAPSA has remained committed to using the united voice of its members to defend and enhance the welfare of captive primates. NAPSA has developed Position Statements and Educational Resources on a growing number of topics relevant to primate exploitation and primate welfare in the hopes of initiating and supporting change.
Workshops
NAPSA Workshop 2023 took place in May in Atlanta, with the theme #CaregiverStrong. Photos will be posted soon.
We look forward to once again uniting and educating the primate sanctuary community in 2025!
NAPSA STATISTICS
Primate sanctuaries are more in demand than ever before. As animals are retired from captive situations, exact data about NAPSA member sanctuaries and their residents constantly change.
Close to 800 nonhuman primates live at NAPSA member sanctuaries.
