Overview
One of Masaya's better known series of games, Schbibin Man 3 finally takes our heroes onto CD-Rom. Still retaining the action platforming escapades of the previous installments, this one returns the close combat sword action from the first game. Also, you now have the ability to partially guide your schbibin once fired by holding down the button and wrestling with the joypad. This is very useful and you can get some quite accurate hits in with practice. Being on CD, this game is far more varied this time around and levels change regularly. There are also some nice surprises, like being able to control a massive walking robot, or flying on a bug while pursued by a gigantic dragon that breathes fire at you from behind.

Comment
Without doubt, this is the best looking game in the series. Fantastic parallax scrolling in places, some huge sprites - all a treat to look at and some quite lengthy and well constructed anime style intro sequences add tremendously. Music is generally pretty good throughout, with the opening intro deserving of a special mention. This is also a game well worth completing - not only do you get a great ending sequence, but this also opens up an 'omake' section which allows you to see fan art of the Schbibin Man characters! It may be as easy as breathing, but it's top fun and you'll come back to it again and again.

You say...
Shubibinman 3 is held to be the best of a decent series, making the jump from HuCard to CD. We get an impressive intro, and a great title screen, with some top notch artistry and a nice tune. The game itself is a decent action platformer, though for some strange reason the series gets referred to as being like Megaman?! It isn't, it's not as good as Megaman, but it's a very different feel. This game features large sprites, and some good, detailed backgrounds, but the levels can be a little bit drawn out and empty feeling. The music is decent enough, though often drowned out by the "woof" of your sword. This is a decent game, and well worth playing, but you can't help feeling it could have easily been a lot better than it is.
