  • Budget: NOK 11 billion, of which NOK 3,2 billion from external sources

  • 7700 full-time equivalents (FTEs), of which 5000 work with teaching, research and dissemination (academic positions). Approx 44 per cent of these are women and approx 39 per cent are international
  • Close cooperation with SINTEF, an R&D organization with 1800 employees (both co-located with NTNU in Trondheim, and in Oslo)

  • Most first-priority applicants of Norgwegian universities, 24 008, og the university that recruits the most nationally
  • 43 507 registered students, about half within science and technology
  • 85 per cent of the students are in Trondheim, 9 per cent in Gjøvik and 6 per cent in Ålesund
  • Just above half of the students (53 per cent) are women
  • 3755 of the students (9 per cent) are international, and they are from 114 countries
  • 8847 bachelor's and master's degrees awarded (2025)
  • 3887 in further education programmes and in experience-based master's (2025)

  • Offers a range of bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes in humanities, social sciences, economics, medicine, health sciences, educational sciences, architecture, entrepreneurship and aesthetic disciplines.
  • Educates most teachers (teacher training, lecturer, primary school, vocational), and in health and fine arts in Norway
