38k | David Rickart Connole (08 September 1912 - 28 March 1945) was born the first son of Henry and Mary Rickart Connole in Madison, Illinois. After doing well in school and achieving
the rank of Eagle Scout he attended Illinois College for two years. Gaining entrance to the U.S. Naval Academy in 1932, he graduated with the Class of '36 and spent the next three years serving
in USS Boise (CL 47) before applying and being accepted to Submarine School. After graduating Sub School, he served in USS Pompano (SS 181) from December 1939 to August 1943, and made a number of war patrols in her. He then became Executive Officer of USS Cuttlefish (SS 171) and in 1944 took command of USS Sennet (SS 408). In early 1945 he assumed command of USS Trigger (SS 237). On 28 March 1945, Trigger was lost in the East China Sea in a battle with Japanese air and surface units. Commander Connole was the recipient of two Silver Stars and the Bronze Star, and Trigger was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for three of her war patrols.
