Discover JAMCO - Your Trusted Partner

JAMCO (the Japan Media Communication Center) is an organization that provides Japanese TV programs to TV stations in developing countries free of broadcast license fees.

JAMCO was established in Tokyo in 1991 as a non-profit organization with the mission of fostering international exchange, cultivating mutual understanding with other countries, and contributing to the development of broadcasting in developing countries.

We operate with funding from NHK, Japan’s public broadcaster, and commercial broadcasters in Japan. As an affiliate member of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, JAMCO is widely known among broadcasting stations overseas.

Empowering TV Stations in Developing Countries

JAMCO selects high-quality TV programs produced by NHK and Japanese commercial broadcasters and translates them into English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Chinese. These programs are made available to broadcasting stations in developing countries.

Since our establishment in 1991, we have produced over 1,900 programs and supplied these to over 100 countries more than 15,000 times altogether.

JAMCO has an extensive program library boasting around 1,400 titles that are available to television stations in developing countries for broadcasting.

You can easily browse and select programs for your TV station on our official website.

Greetings from

Takashi Koezuka
PRESIDENT
Japan Media Communication Center

The Japan Media Communication Center (JAMCO) has ever since its establishment through joint funding by Japan’s public broadcaster, NHK, and the Japan Commercial Broadcasters Association in 1991 provided high quality Japanese TV programs to developing countries in the form of grants, with a view to promoting international exchanges and mutual understanding, while contributing to the development of the broadcasting culture of these countries.

For this purpose, the Center selects every year programs appropriate for broadcast in developing countries from among the programs broadcast in Japan, produces their international versions in English and Spanish, and retains them in its own library. The contents of these programs range widely in those areas from Japanese traditional culture and society to education, disaster prevention, documentaries and dramas. This library now holds altogether some 1,400 titles.

In the Center’s 30-plus years of existence, a cumulative total of more than 15,000 programs has been supplied to 101 different countries in Asia-Pacific, Central and South America, Africa, Europe and elsewhere. These programs are highly appreciated and have not only been broadcast in these countries but also used as teaching materials in universities etc.

With the continuing expansion of the information space through the use of the internet, especially among the young people, the environment surrounding the broadcasting media is also undergoing a substantial change. Even in such drastically changing times, nothing but the attractive contents of the programs can satisfy the needs of the audience in each country. JAMCO will continue to pour its efforts in producing and supplying a wide range of international program versions and fulfilling our mission of reinforcing Japan’s communication reach in the world.

I hope that the use of the JAMCO library will continue to spread ever more widely both via access to this website and through direct inquiries to JAMCO.
