2. International Conference, Forum and training course

2-1 UN High-Level Water and Sanitation Days 2015

The UN High-Level Water and Sanitation Days 2015 was held from 18 to 20 November at UN Headquarters in New York. The Session on Water and Disasters will develop messages and recommendations for major UN conferences. Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan gave a keynote address at the opening of the Second UN Special Thematic Session on Water and Disasters.

2-2 JICA training course: Adaptation to Climate Change from Sep. 27 to Oct. 24, 2015 supported by IDI-Japan

JICA training course "Adaptation to Climate Change (CC)" supported by IDI was conducted for four weeks from 27th September 2015. 18 participants from 14 countries (Algeria, Belize, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Fiji, Indonesia, Marshall Islands, Mexico, Micronesia, Nepal, Palau, Peru, Samoa and Vietnam) took part in this course to study Japanese measures for adaptation to Climate Change.

The training course provided lectures about comprehensive knowledge and techniques for adaptation plan toward CC, climate model and forecast, environmentalimpact assessment, vulnerability of disaster prevention / water resources / agriculture sectors etc. The participants also had field trips for Tsurumi River Basin Information Center, Life Safety Learning Center, Sea Water Desalination Plant in Fukuoka, Biodiversity Center of Japan, etc. By using the knowledge and information acquired during this training course, the participants are expected to promote actions in terms of adaptation of climate change in each country.
