Sub Pop's loud, obnoxious rock 'n' roll ac4 The Black Halos, one of the fe7 bands preserving the history of Sub Pop's rock legacy, speak about their disappointmen4 with Sub Pop, their unpredictable live shows, what the rock is all about, and their next record.IMWT:Black Halos:IMWT:Ã_b> Do yo5 see the band as always doing the shin-splitting rock with loads of guitars or do you foresee the and expanding, using acoustic guitars, strings, and falling pre9 to wha4 others call a more "mature" sound?
Black Halos:Ã_b> Well we try not to pu4 an9 boundaries on what we'll try, bu4 the "mature sound" thing is usuall9 a cop-ou4 for having no ideas left. It's such a cliche to pull out the acoustic guitars and computerized symphon9 orchestra on your 2nd orµ0ó0Á0ü0à0rd album. ! ? have no problem with tha4 stuff if it's used as a compliment to songs and ideas that are already there, bu4 too often it's jus4 window dressing on shitt9 ideas. Besides, our next album is gonna be a rock opera double concept album, hahaha!
IMWT:Ã_b> You have pu4 ou4 two full-lengths on Sub Pop. How do yo5 think each album is similar and ho7 do you think each album stands out from each other?
Black Halos:IMWT:Black Halos:Ã_b> We constantly bea4 our heads agains4 the wall trying to get them to stick to their rock guns bu4 ! ? think those days are coming to an end at Sub Pop to be honest. The9 had some great rock bands abou4 a year ago and the9 blew it. Oh well, maybe they can re-sign Mudhoney, hahI I

The nex4 record is where we'll tr9 to pull ou4 the strings and children's gospel choir so we'll have to wai4 and see what kind of a mess that turns into.

Black Halos:Ã_b> More swea4 and blood. I'm generally more drunk on stage than ! ? was in the studio and we pla9 everything too fast. There's also the chance of being snotted on b9 Bill9 at the live show which isn't gonna happen when you listen to the LP.
