Participating Countries

Brazil, China, Spain, Greece, Croatia, India, Iran, Islamic Republic of, Mexico, Russian Federation, South Africa

Description

•Quality of the dosimetry chain in Member States enhanced through an independent means of verification of the dose delivery in brachytherapy

•Safe and effective treatments of cancer patients ensured through developing and testing auditing techniques for brachytherapy applications

•Assistance to Member States provided in developing national quality audit programmes for brachytherapy dosimetry

Objectives

To develop and make available a dosimetry audit methodology for high dose rate brachytherapy

Specific Objectives

To develop and make available a methodology and procedures for national External Audit Groups for verification of the reference air kerma rate of high dose rate Co-60 and/or Ir-192 brachytherapy micro-sources for radiotherapy
parameters used for cancer treatment.

To develop and make available a methodology and procedures for national External Audit Groups for validation of treatment planning dose calculations for high dose rate Co-60 and/or Ir-192 brachytherapy

To develop and make available a methodology and procedures for national External Audit Groups to develop expertise in solid state dosimetry in order to perform end to end dosimetry audit of a typical high dose rate brachytherapy treatment delivery.
