Description

Fusion energy is one of the promising energy sources for the future. The physical conditions dominating in fusion are extreme and most demanding for the materials to be employed in the operation of fusion energy systems. As a result, there is a worldwide continuously increasing effort to investigate the physical processes altering their properties and composition under the extreme physical conditions expected in future fusion energy systems. Ion Beam Analysis (IBA) has been proved as one of the principal methods to investigate and provide useful information about those processes due to its unique analytical potential.
This CRP will assist the international IBA community to coordinate research efforts in understanding aspects of ion-induced radiation damage in materials relevant to fusion energy as well as their analysis and interpretation. The work plan includes experiments to determine original new nuclear data, the development of international standards and protocols for credible measurements and analysis procedures, the selection or production of reference samples for calibration and data analysis purposes and a round robin test to evaluate the performance of IBA laboratories worlwide.

Specific Objectives

To facilitate scientists from IAEA Member States to acquire knowledge and develop skills in irradiation and analysis of materials by accelerator-based techniques for fusion related applications.

To provide a platform for the establishment of efficient collaborations and transfer of knowledge between scientists from developing and developed Member States focus on the use of accelerator-based techniques for fusion related technologies.

To develop standards for measurements and analysis procedures.
