For Debian/Ubuntu/LinuxMint Run: aptitude install gnat
For Gentoo Run: emerge dev-lang/gnat
For Fedora Run: yum install fedora-gnat-project-common gprbuild

Install on Mac OS X

Download from the gnuada sourceforge site.
cd /
sudo tar jxvf ~/Downloads/gcc-4.9.1-x86_64-apple-darwin13.tar.bz2
put /opt/gcc-4.9.1/bin first on your PATH.
If you wish to use the gdb debugger without being root see how to codesign the debugger. (This is _not_ required to get started.)

Install on Windows

TDM-GCC is the most current version of gcc/ada available for 32 and 64bit Windows. Make sure to add Ada under the options for languages during installation
Git For Windows SDK has a full 32 and 64 bit FSF GNAT and Mingw32 or 64 dev environment out of the box.
MingGW 32bit install
Cygwin 32 or 64bits Install the MinGW versions of gcc/ada compiler from within cygwin unless compiling GPL licensed code, executables will not use Unix like paths, etc and be true Windows executables. (To compile use x86_64-mingw32-gnatmake (for 64bits) or i686-w64-ming32-gnatmake (for 32bits))
Install GWindows for GUI programming from The Gnavi Project on Sourceforge

Install GPR Tools (gprbuid, gprclean, etc.) by unzipping gpr-tools.zip into the base dir of the GNAT install (for example C:\TDM-GCC-64)

A commercial Ada '95 compiler good for Ada starters on Windows including CLAW for GUI programming is available from RR Software

The Ada Mascot

Lady Fairy, the Ada Language Mascot, by Leah Goodreau was the winner of a communtiy wide contest for an Ada Mascot.

My mascot was inspired by Ada Lovelace's adolescent fascination with flight and Charles Babbage's nickname for her, "Lady Fairy." The coloration of the mascot references the Asian fairy-bluebird, while the silhouette is a hummingbird because of their famed speed and sleekness.
