Crane Bar - famous for its 'trad' sessions

There is a very strong tradition of Irish music in Galway and the pubs reflect this, especially Taaffes, Neachtains and the Lisheen bar. Music is listened to with conversation, and not in a formal concert atmosphere. Many visitors don't fully understand this passive music ethos, but in a way it is similar to the promenades in London, where the music is apparently background, but nonetheless enjoyed. Jazz is ever popular, and it tends to move around from pub to pub and most pubs feature at least a couple of nights of live music.
