We, FIDR, are an international humanitarian NGO working for people in poverty, children giving up their dreams, and victims of disasters. In the shadow of economic growth of the nations in Southeast and South Asia, their voices are not heard of exactly. Staying close with them, we seek to resolve the problems surely and steadily in cooperation with many individuals and companies.
In Cambodia, Vietnam, and Nepal, where FIDR primarily operates, economic development is progressing, but internal disparities are deepening. Children placed at the lower end of these disparities face difficulties in growing up healthy, accessing education, and carving out their own futures. Various challenges related to poverty are interconnected, with inadequate government services, lack of infrastructure, and changes in economic structures due to globalization posing significant constraints on local communities in addressing these issues.
To create a society where children can grow up healthy, we start with comprehending the issues both from a wide perspective and at a grassroot level, and find the best solutions with local people. We utilize our years-long experiences and advice by experts in the process of planning and implementation of projects. We place great value on the thoughts and feelings of the people facing difficulties in the lives and in the occupations, not to impose external ideas without considering the local context. Those individuals will finally feel a sense of accomplishment, saying, “I did it!”
Such experiences of success will spread to others, causing a positive chain reaction of sustainable development. Because we have over 30 years of practical experience and solid trust from local communities in Asian countries, we can offer effective solutions to the challenges.
Providing aid supplies from advanced countries and transferring knowledge developed by them without integrating it into the local context ultimately leads to stagnation.
The form of international cooperation that FIDR aims for involves leveraging local resources and implementing sustainable methods devised by local people themselves.
