My name is James Litton and I primarily work in devising new system abstractions to improve usability, security, and performance of critical system software. I received a Ph.D. under a joint program between the University of Maryland and the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems in computer science. I defended my thesis in December 2020 and was advised by Bobby Bhattacharjee and Peter Druschel. While a graduate student, I conceived of, developed, and evaluated systems software that compared favorably against comparable production systems. Before obtaining my Ph.D., I worked professionally as a software engineer for four years.
