Andrew's
Moss Site
The
main part of this site is a collection of photographs of mosses.
There are about 375 moss photos, and more are being added all
the time.
We (KNNV moss group, Wageningen) had an excursion to Meinerswijk.
That is a nature reserve in the floodplain of the river Rhine
(Nederrijn) near to Arnhem. It is a damp clay grassland with pools,
not so interesting for mosses (except for a little
Riccia)
but it did have several concrete ramps, paths and walls which were
covered in all sorts of interesting things. We were promised
Hedwigia,
but apparently it had disappeared in the years since it was last
spotted there, or perhaps moved itself to anther spot. I guess the
most interesting moss for me was
Brachythecium velutinium.
Although it is reasonably common, it has reduced in abundance a lot
in recent years, and in fact I hadn't consciously seen it for about
25 years, so I was happy to take its photo.
