Biggest recruitment year in TVO history
TVO prepares for the operational stage of Olkiluoto 3 EPR and oncoming retirements by hiring some one hundred new experts this year.

TVO Group has undertaken, during 2017, the biggest recruitment round of its history. By the end of the year, over one hundred new experts will have joined the Group. New recruits have been hired mainly into positions of technical expertise.

"By hiring new experts and fine-tuning our organisation we are positioning ourselves for the launch of the operational phase of Olkiluoto 3. In particular, our technical service and electricity production organisations have been strengthened," says Jaana Isotalo, responsible for HR.

Decision-makers see nuclear energy as means to combat climate change

TVO gathers stakeholder feedback in a regular poll measuring, among others, attitudes towards nuclear energy. According to a fresh poll, decision-makers see nuclear power as an important way of producing electricity, for environmental reasons. One concern flagged by respondents was the economic viability of the nuclear power.

IEA: Nuclear energy production should be doubled

The International Energy Agency (IEA) stated in its new World Energy Outlook 2017 that the share of fossil fuels is still high at 81 per cent. In the future, however, the role of the low-carbon energy like renewables and nuclear power, will be decisive in addressing climate change.

Olkiluoto waits with confidence for new operating licence for OL1 and OL2

At the beginning of the year, TVO submitted to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment a new application for an operating licence for its Olkiluoto 1 and 2 plant units.

According to TVO Project Manager Kristiina Rusanen, the licence submitted is of truly great significance for TVO, as it will guarantee the continued operation of the two units after 2018.

ONKALO preparing for a full-scale final disposal test

While the excavation of the final deposition tunnel continues, preparatory work is also underway in Posiva’s ONKALO for a test that will play an important role when applying for an operating licence for the final disposal.

During the coming year a full-scale process test, known as a Full Scale In Situ System Test (FISST) will demonstrate that the final disposal process is working according to plan. The test will begin in March.

TVO IN BRIEF

Teollisuuden Voima Oyj has produced electricity for its shareholders safely and reliably for nearly 40 years. Nuclear electricity generated at TVO's Olkiluoto plant covers approximately one sixth, increasing to nearly one third once Olkiluoto 3 EPR is completed, of the electricity consumption in Finland. Climate-friendly nuclear electricity not only benefits society but also reduces the environmental impact of energy production.
