8 Man (8マン?) or Eightman (エイトマン Eitoman?) is a manga and anime superhero created in 1963 by science fiction writer Kazumasa Hirai and manga artist Jiro Kuwata. He is considered Japan's earliest cyborg superhero, predating even Kamen Rider (the same year, Shotaro Ishinomori created Cyborg 009), and was supposedly the inspiration for RoboCop.

The manga was published in Weekly Shōnen Magazine and ran from 1963 to 1966. The anime series, produced by Eiken with the TCJ Animation Center, was broadcast on Tokyo Broadcasting System, and ran from November 17, 1963 to December 31, 1964, with a total of 56 episodes (plus the "farewell" special episode, "Goodbye, Eightman").

Metamorpho, the Element Man, debuted in The Brave and the Bold #57 (January 1965).[1] As first conceived, Metamorpho was a parody of the fantastic characters that populated comic books in the 1960s.[2] Artist Ramona Fradon was coaxed out of maternity-retirement to illustrate Metamorpho's first appearances.


Ultra the Multi-Alien was a science fiction superhero featured in comics published by DC Comics. He first appeared in Mystery in Space #103 (1965), pushing out Adam Strange and Space Ranger from that title. He was created by writer Dave Wood and artist Lee Elias.

Joseph Meach a.k.a. The Composite Super man first appeared in World's Finest Comics #142 in 1964.

In terms of abilities and raw power, the Joseph Meach version of Composite Superman was one of the most powerful enemies Superman and Batman ever faced. He had all of Superman's powers, but to a far greater degree, derived from Supergirl and the similarly-powered Mon-El and Ultra Boy. The Composite Superman also possessed numerous special powers, derived from various Legion members:

The ability to grow to giant size (Colossal Boy)
The ability to shrink (Shrinking Violet)
The ability to divide into 3 people (Triplicate Girl)
The ability to fire lightning bolts (Lightning Lad)
The ability to generate heat and light (Sun Boy)

The Legion of Super Heroes first appears in Adventure Comics #247 (April 1958), and was created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino.

Good Morning Folks,

On this fine Turkey Day / Throwback Thursday, I find myself recalling a bit of work that amused me greatly. in 2009 I did a bit of unaccredited freelance prop work on a film that may appeal to you if you dig the whole Monster Noir genre. It was the film "Dylan Dog: Dead of Night", which if you dug flicks like "Cast a Deadly Spell", it may just amuse you.
For this gig, there was a sequence where there was an ancient text that needed illustrations in a medieval woodblock style. I was fortunate enough to have the fun of doing that spot of work.

Portfolio Work: Ben 10 Omniverse Development - Big Chuck

Hey Folks,

Of the many shows I have had the pleasure to work on, I always enjoyed Ben 10 and it's various spinoffs. Here is a sample of some early development for the character "Big Chuck" which was a hybrid of two characters the I developed for the original run of Ben 10, "Waybig" and "Upchuck". I enjoyed getting to to get do freelance on designing the Hybridized form of these two aliens for Ben 10 Omniverse. The hybrid aliens concept for Ben 10,000's alien options originates from the Ben 10 episode "Dr. Animo and the Mutant RAy". My heart felt thanks to both Derrick J. Wyatt and Matt Youngberg for inviting me to help out on their fine incarnation of that franchise!

Here is a sample of that goodness for an episode that featured Charmcaster the sinister sorceress. I developed her for the original Ben 10 series back in the day, so it was fun to get to freelance on designing her dragon metamorphosis for Ben 10 Omniverse. My heart felt thanks to both Derrick J. Wyatt and Matt Youngberg for inviting me to help out on their fine incarnation of that franchise!

Here we have the some of the rough designs for her dragon form and using a Fire Breath attack. I like drawing beasties of all sorts, so this assignment was great fun to design.
