MISSION STATEMENT

DonateSkeptoid Media promotes media literacy, curiosity, and critical thinking through engaging and educational multimedia content. By instilling the principles of scientific reasoning and skepticism, we encourage our audience to discern fact from fiction and science from the sensational, thereby building and fostering skills that last a lifetime.

We accomplish this mission by:

  • Creating independent, science- and research-based content that is inviting, approachable, interesting, and accessible.
  • Fostering an enthusiasm for learning by utilizing positive and affirmative messaging.
  • Promoting social responsibility by delving into important issues facing society.
  • Embracing diversity in our internal structure, programming, and audience, and ensuring inclusivity with a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

Our values:

  • Honesty and integrity - by operating with transparency and the highest ethical standards.
  • Humility - by acknowledging our errors and recognizing new scientific developments.
  • Empathy - by respecting other points of view.
  • Inclusivity - by welcoming and embracing diverse perspectives.
  • Credibility - by presenting reliable, factual, and impartial presentation of topics.

COMPANY HISTORY

The weekly Skeptoid science podcast was launched in 2006, and has been an iTunes top science podcast ever since, passing 100 million downloads in 2017 and distributed by the Public Radio Exchange. Host and producer Brian Dunning incorporated Skeptoid Media in 2008. The show's primary market organically became educators promoting science and critical thinking. To best serve the education mission, Skeptoid Media was converted to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2012.

Since then, we produce web series and a documentary film each year (see our programming for a list). All of our programs are intended to fit into educational curriculum as well as provide entertaining and enlightening content for the general public. And, of course, the Skeptoid podcast still goes out to its devoted audience every week.

In 2017, Skeptoid Media permanently relocated its offices and production facilities to Bend, Oregon.
