#-o I am looking for what areas Commando Group Head Quarters commanded and which Commando Units belonged to them. A Commando Group HQ commanded 3-8 commando units

ie
Group 9
Natal Midlands HQ Group was based at Pietermaritzburg in Longmarket Street.

Commando Units were

Pietermaritzburg
Midmar (Howick ?)
Umvoti (Greytown)
East Griqualand (Kokstad)
Umkomaas (Ixopo)
Weenen-Kliprivier (Ladysmith?)

There was another Group ?? HQ based at Durban in Smith Street (the old Smith Street SAPolice Station)

There were about 45 Group HQ's and over 200 Commando Units

Any assistance will be highly appreciated.

Not sure if this helps Garth but my uncle lives in Eshowe - there is a building there, Group 26 HQ. I have no idea what sub units were affiliated with it.

Thanks Ryan, helps alot as that is another down.

This execise is like building a wall, brick by brick. So that is another brick in the wall.

If you have contact with him, could you please ask him what their flash looked like. Can not find it in Owen's book.

Group 2 HQ was originally at Worcester in the Western Cape under the command of the SADF legend, Col. Willem Welgemoed, prior to moving to Oudtshoorn

Thanks sorted out the reason for Gp2 in Worcester then later in Oudtshoorn.

In Oudtshoorn Gp2 was an amalgamation of a number of Groups as the Commandos were closed down.
