Timestamps are in UTC.
just ran into the timezones-for-repeating-events issue again (trying to subscribe to my sidekick calendar from google calendar)
checking to see if there's any news on that... I gather some new iCalendar RFCs have been issued since I last checked...
no news at http://microformats.org/wiki/hcalendar-brainstorming#Recurring_Events
now checking http://datatracker.ietf.org/wg/calsify/ ...
still: " The specification of
globally unique time zone identifiers is not addressed by this
document and is left for future study.
" -- http://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc5545/
ah... interesting... 3.8.3.5. Time Zone URL
(nicer hypertext http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5545 )
yeah timezones aren't fun
I recommend using floating datetimes
that's what I do when I convert sidekick data to .ics
but google interprets it as UTC time
(which is fair game; they gotta pick _some_ timezone)
hmm... among the changes from RFC2445 is "The "DTSTART" and "DTEND" properties are no longer required to be
specified as date with local time and time zone reference when
used with a recurrence rule.
"
DanC hmmm - that doesn't sound correct, unless you've set your "current timezone" to UTC
floating is supposed to mean local to the user's timezone
so no, it is not "fair game", they cannot just "pick _some_ timezone"
sounds like a bug
hmm... yeah, I suppose so.
meanwhile, I taught my tool to say: DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20091028T082000
