All,

Some of the main attractions of this Forum for me are the ideas

about communities of practice and collaborative work environments

that inform the background of its ontological and semantic inquiries.

These ideas resonate with many themes that have driven my own questying

for as long as I can remember, from the ideas of Peirce and Royce about

communities of interpretation and inquiry, to continuing discussions of

what it means to be a critical thinker and a reflective practitioner

to ideas on the contemporary scene about learning organizations and

learning communities, to my own inquiries into the nature of agents,

communities, organisms, or systems that are capable of inquiry in

any way at all.

But I have an unfortunate tendency to get dragged down by picayune

details of logic and semiotics and such that makes me forget these

larger goals for long periods at a time.

So maybe it will help to drop a heading for collecting the odd thought

about these all-important, if rarely attended background motivations.
