IMO it would be better to write:
<abbr class="bday" title="20051215T080000Z">
<img src="file..." alt="December 15, 2005" />
</abbr>
This way you could have
- img's src for the imaged users
- img's alt for the imageless users
- and abbr's title for users who think in 1's and 0's.
